This is
Jesse.
He was picked up by animal control here in Memphis on
Thursday December 11, 2008. He was taken to the animal shelter
and had puncture wound in his eye. The shelter called me to let
me know about him and to asked if we could take him on his “due
out” date 12-6-08. I was told he was a 1 year old male Pug that
weighed about 20 lbs. I told them I would like to pick him up
immediately and take him to Dr. Blackburn for treatment. That
request was denied but I was assured he would get immediate
medical attention. On Saturday I was at the shelter when they
opened. When they brought Jesse out I was shocked. He was a
puppy, probably no more than 4 months old. Because he didn’t get
the proper medical attention his eye had ruptured on Friday and
they didn’t even give him pain medication. I wrapped him in a
warm blanket and we went to see Dr. Blackburn. How Jesse’s
spirit wasn’t broken I do not know. While we waited to see the
vet he laid on my chest with his head nuzzled in my hair. He was
safe now and knew it. His eye was removed yesterday (12-9-08).
Thankfully his other eye is okay. He was also neutered and got
all of his shots. He’s still in some pain, but nothing like he
was, but is taking medication to ease that. He should be able to
go to his foster home soon. After the beginning of the year
Jesse will be available for adoption.
Jesse is the 4th Pug we have gotten in the past 2 weeks. They
have all been turned over by their owners, except for Sophie,
who was abandoned when her family was evicted from their home.
We have rescued 25 Pugs this year.

provide medical care for needy Pugs, a safe foster home and
strong adoption program to ensure that every
Pug lives the rest
of their life in a loving and secure home.
