New Beginnings

2005

Buster

This sweet boy was turned over to rescue by his owner. Because of the arrival of a new baby she felt he wasn’t getting the attention he had become accustomed to. He’s blended easily in his foster home and it wasn't long before they decided he would be a perfect fit in their family. Buster seemed to have decided he was moving in from the time he arrived. He was smiling the whole ride to his new home was introduced him to the other pets in his foster home, Buddy and Bailey, on neutral territory. After a lot of sniffing they all walked back home in pack fashion. Buster was front and center to go into the house and they sniffed some more and grazed in the back yard. He seems to want affection, but in a way, it seems like he doesn't quite know that love exists. He will come up to his new parents and put his front paws on their knees as if to ask for attention. The way to his heart is to rub his ears… He –loves it! He was curious about a little squeaky toy star but didn't quite know what to do with it. He's very smart and responds to words such as 'outside,' 'treat,' and 'come here.' He comes every time he's called and is housebroken. Buster is truly sweet, and it’s difficult to imagine how someone would give him up so easily.

Pug

Pug is a big boy. He was a little down when he went to his foster home..... he loved the people that had to let him go. He went immediately to his foster Dad, who was at his computer and sat under his chair. Now he won't leave his side and cries when he leaves him. He's a big Daddy's boy. He won't eat hard dog food but he makes hilarious noises when his foster parents are eating. We think he might have been fed from the table some because of his weight problem. We have been feeding him soft dog food right now. I have to push him outside also, but it has been cold and rainy here. He's ok on potty training but did mark a couple of things. He is a good boy and has started wagging his tail and playing some, so he is starting to not feel so bad about leaving his home. He's about 10 years old, and is healthy, up to date on his vaccinations and has been neutered. He was very loved and cared for and his owner had no other choice other than to give him up because of their health problems. He gets along great with the other pets in his foster home, but would be equally as happy being an "only" Pug.

Update 8/1/2005

Here is Pug with his new sibling, Angel, and a friend of theirs...

Frankie

Frankie is a 5 year old female who was rescued from a puppy mill in Tennessee. She is very loving, healthy and would do great in a home where she could gets lots of attention. She's a little shy, so numerous other pets can be overwhelming to her. She just arrived in her foster home on May 8, so we will have an update on her very soon. These are pictures taken by the volunteer who was kind enough to transport Frankie to her foster home. Many thanks to Becky and all of the volunteers who make it possible to continue our efforts.

HI, my name is Becky. This past Friday, we were lucky enough to have a very special little girl come and stay with us. Her name was Frankie. On Saturday morning I had to transport her to her foster mom in Camden. It was my first time transporting for Memphis Pug Rescue. We just wanted to share some pictures of the short time we spent with her. She has such a sweet face. I told her I would keep up with her to find out when she goes to her forever home (so I will be checking back.) She will make someone very happy and I know there is someone who can teach her what it's like to be loved too.

Chuck

We adopted Chuck in December of 2004. Karen Rench brought him to us and said that we could keep him over the weekend and see how that worked out. We decided in less than 5 minutes that he was a keeper. He made himself at home and we fell in love immediately. We took him to PetsMart and picked out toys, food, harness etc. and of course loaded up on treats. He didn’t play with his toys right off the bat. As he became more comfortable with us and settled in, he started playing with his stuffed Pug and stuffed lamb. He does that before bed usually along with his grooming ritual. We took him to the vet to have his tumor removed in January. He did great and we noticed that his energy level increased dramatically after the surgery. The tumor was merely a lipoma but was under the muscle and fairly large and probably a little uncomfortable. His personality is really coming out a little more every day. He spins like a Tasmanian devil when he wants food or to go outside. He loves to be right between Jon and I. If we are on the couch he has to be in the middle or on top of one of us. He loves if you nap with him. We both laugh at how loud he snores. He sounds like a little freight train.

We were considering getting a puppy from a breeder and then I thought to look and see if there were any rescues locally. I would recommend rescues to anyone that is looking to get a companion dog. The rescue people do a wonderful job of making you aware of everything that they know about the dog such as if they have any illnesses, are not good with children, need a fenced yard etc. In the 4 months that we have had Chuck, he has only had 1 or 2 accidents and those were our fault not his. Pugs are great dogs. They just want to be with you and be loved. I’ve noticed that there is no "off"switch for his appetite so we have to be careful there. He would eat all the time if we let him. He lost weight before his surgery but found it again afterwards. We babied him a lot and have to put him on a diet again. He gets along great with my stepson Daris and is part of out little family now. Thanks so much to Karen and Anna for letting us adopt Chuck. We wouldn’t trade him for anything.

Rolie

Rolie..is such a loving little boy!! Full of personality and so silly. Every morning when his Mom takes her shower he goes in the bathroom and steals her house shoes....it never fails...he doesn't do anything to them...it is like maybe if they aren't in there she won't leave for work. He is soooo cute!!! He and his Pug sibling, Chloe, became fast friends.. They love to play chase around the house....for someone who doesn't have the best eyesight he does really well and keeps right up with her. Rolie is 2-1/2 years old and was turned over by his owners due to the arrival of a new baby. He's a healthy boy, housetrained and extremely intelligent and athletic. He was born with Pigmentary Keratitis- the development of a brown film (pigment) over the clear cornea of the eye requires eye drops daily. Rolie loves his new home and enjoys going outside under the trees. His Mom says one night he didn't come to bed with her & Choloe... and she work up in the middle of the night and got to looking for him. She found sitting outside under a tree by the flowers!!

Sugar
BellaHi Everyone!

Just wanted to share some of the pics I have taken of Bella and her new bother and sister!!! They are all getting along great! Lola and Bella were fast friends and Junior is happy Bella is there so that Lola will leave him alone! Bella is eating great and might even be getting a little pug belly! She loves toys and Lola is happy to let her have them, she just wants to chase Bella as she brings the toys back to us. They chase each other in circles and then poop out and cuddle together. There has been zero aggression from Bella to Lola or Junior. Even with treats she's been fine, I have avoided bones that take longer to eat and stuck with small bite sized treats! Bella has been great with the potty training too. She has not had an accident in the house or kennel since the very first night she got here. And that was only a little tinkle on a throw rug in the bathroom! The potty schedule is working great. Lola and Bella are kenneled together if we are gone during the day and if you put one in without the other, they both cry. They are buds! She sleeps in the bed with all of us at night and loves to burrow under the covers and lay right up against us! She is a big talker and when she wants something she'll sure let you know. I couldn't have asked for a better adoption and the entire family is so happy. She is such a little sweetheart and seems to be adjusting to the good life quite quickly!I want to thank all of you for your help and support. I think we were meant to have Bella as soon as I saw that ad in the paper.
