Some Pugs come to rescue are not adoptable because of their age or a medical condition.   We appreciate the foster homes that share their live with these special Pugs. We are happy to be able to give them the love and care they require for as long as it takes but we need your help.  Some need to make regular visits to the vet and some require medication on a regular basis.

Meet Brownie. He is only a year old and lived his entire life outdoors.  His owner not only didn't bother to give him food & water, but also withheld love and affection that all young Pugs need.  The ASPCA was contacted by his owner's neighbor.  They took him away and thankfully the owner did not want him back.  PRoM was contacted and we picked him up the same day.

It was obvious he need the excellent of our vet, Dr. Blackburn. He got's Sarcoptice Mange. Brownie will need to stay at the vet for the next 3 weeks. His treatment began last week and he's still itching quite a bit but feels much better than he did a week ago. He also has a nasty yeast infection in addition to the mange.  Thankfully he's heartworm negative and otherwise healthy.  After he begins to heal he'll be neutered and anxious to go to his foster home.  In spite of being malnourished and neglected to the point of being forgotten, Brownie has a winning personality and a huge spirit. He loves the attention he gets from all the staff at Gentle Care.

This is SAMPSON who had the misfortune of being abandoned at a shelter in Memphis. The first weekend in his foster home he kept to himself and got plenty of rest. On the way to the vet he began to whimper for attention and crawled in his foster Mom’s lap. He had some hair loss because of flea allergies and several teeth that were so infected there was puss oozing from them. Last but not least, he is Heartworm positive. After being on antibiotics to clear up the infection in his mouth he was able to have the dental and had 4 teeth pulled. It’s obvious he’s feeling better.. his animated personality is revealing itself. He likes to have his ears rubbed and lets you know if you stop and he hasn’t had enough. He has a good appetite, is potty trained and has begun to walk up and down a few steps. Dr. Blackburn feels the risk would be greater than the benefit of heartworm treatment. He will go on heartworm preventative, which will slowly kill the adult worms over time. He’s made a great deal of progress in the six weeks we have had him…he looks fabulous, he's got a beautiful soft coat, clean teeth and a wonderful personality. Our goal is to place Sampson in a home where he will be loved unconditionally. We aren’t sure of his age, but he’s at least 10 years old. If you want a happy, low maintenance companion Sampson is for you! You will never regret the gift of love that you give an older rescue Pug
